In late November 2024, Microsoft announced the launch of Edge Game Assist—a new feature aimed at enhancing the gaming experience by facilitating easy internet browsing without leaving a game. Following a brief testing phase, Microsoft Edge Game Assist has now been made accessible to all users in the Stable Channel. This addition eliminates the need to constantly Alt+Tab out of games when quick web searches or checks are required. For a seamless experience, users can simply press Win + G and utilize the browser widget integrated directly into the Game Bar.
Initially, Edge Game Assist necessitated downloading Edge 132 Beta and setting it as the default browser for it to function. Now, with its availability in the Stable Channel, there is no need to alter your preferred browser settings. These updates mean gamers can continue using their chosen browsers like Chrome or Firefox while enjoying the convenience of Edge Game Assist within the Game Bar.
Steps to Install and Customize Game Assist
Edge Game Assist is now available for all Windows 11 and Microsoft Edge users. Though it’s still in a preview phase requiring manual setup, you can install this feature by ensuring you have the latest version of Microsoft Edge by going to edge://settings/help. Once updated, navigate to Settings > Appearance > Game Assist, and click “Add”. To use the feature, press Win + G to open the Game Bar, then click Widgets followed by Game Assist (Preview). You can then place the widget anywhere on your screen or pin it for constant visibility.
This update also brings support for popular games such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Marvel Rivals, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. II: Heart of Chernobyl. Additionally, Game Assist now supports useful extensions like ad blockers. Microsoft has indicated that future updates will include more keyboard shortcuts, a dedicated “Settings and more” menu, right-click context menus, an improved picture-in-picture mode, and additional enhancements to streamline the gaming and browsing experience. More detailed information and the latest updates can be found in Microsoft’s official post.
