Samsung and AMD recently extended their licensing agreement for use of Radeon graphics in Exynos chipsets. While it wasn’t spelled out explicitly, this preparation for the next chip from Samsung LSI, which is tentatively named Exynos 2500.
The focus with the new design will be on optimization. That’s pretty vague, but AMD already has high performance hardware – the problem lies in getting it to scale down to smartphone power levels. So the focus will likely be on improving efficiency rather than increasing performance (that said, in a thermally constrained smartphone they are almost one and the same).
