Before BlackBerry produced the Android powered BlackBerry Priv, it tried to fill the wide app gap between BlackBerry and Android by including Android Runtime in BlackBerry 10. This allowed some Android apps to run on BlackBerry 10; company executives in Waterloo hoped that this feature would be enough to prevent BlackBerry users from departing the platform for greener pastures (or should we say greener app stores).
While this plan didn’t work, forcing BlackBerry to go all in with Android hardware last year, there still are a number of BlackBerry 10 handsets out there that include Android Runtime.
